For those of us regularly travelling North Kings Highway we could not help but notice the unique style that was to become Mimosas Southern Kitchen & Bar. Not seen on this end of Kings Highway was its two-sided porch with outdoor seating.
Ambiance: Is it safe to say it has a Key West feel? I believe it does! The bar has a service window for the outside customer and comfortable seating on the outdoor side. The interior seating is also comfortable and well arranged. Parking is adequate and it’s ADA. There were five of use in the party and we all agreed this place had a cool atmosphere.
Service: We arrived at Mimosas just about 11:30 AM and after about a 15-minute wait we were seated. Our young server greeted us immediately and we ordered Mimosas and a Bloody Mary. The drinks did not arrive together, which was the first sign of a service issue. It was other service issues that turned our late morning visit into more than an hour and half experience. The problem was the kitchen back-up. That message never got to the hostess stand and they seemed to continue seating as tables opened. An additional 15-minute wait before being seated may have made a world of difference. The manager was courteous and apologetic and that was certainly appreciated. I realize they had only been open for a few days and I’m sure ownership with 20-years in the restaurant business will get the problem fixed. Unfortunately, I need to grade on my experience.
Food: Mimosas features a creative breakfast menu with a half dozen egg offerings, signature dishes, sweet temptations, skillets handhelds and benedicts One in our party had a traditional breakfast with eggs and hash browns. Both were excellent. I went with the Chicken & Waffles signature dish. The bacon was perfectly crisp to my taste, but my waffle may have been sitting for a while. It was a little soggy. The lunch menu was not as extensive as breakfast, but did feature some nice starters, a half-dozen handhelds, salad creations and steak burgers. Others in the party had steak burgers. The Mushroom Swiss Burger was not up to its billing, while The Classic Cheeseburger was fine. The Mimosas website feature’s the full menu.
Price/Value: This is a challenge for Mimosas. I have no doubt that the service will certainly improve, while the kitchen does a better job of paying off the creativity seen on the menu. Until I can return (and I will) my thoughts are based on my experience.
